At some point in a hotel valet contract conversation, the subject of the hotel's Property Management System comes up. The hotel contact mentions they are on Opera Cloud, or Agilysys, or HotelKey. The conversation moves on.

Later, when integration becomes part of the discussion, that platform name suddenly matters a lot — and operators who have not had to think about it before find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

This article is for those operators. Not a deep technical dive, but a practical orientation: what these systems are, where you encounter them, and what is actually different about working with each one from an integration standpoint.

What a PMS Actually Does

A Property Management System is the operational backbone of a hotel. It manages reservations, guest check-in and checkout, room assignments, folios, billing, and packages. When a guest books a room, checks in, charges something to their room, or checks out, all of that lives in the PMS.

For valet operations tied to a hotel stay — overnight parking, package-included parking, folio-posted charges — the PMS is where the information you need lives. Guest name, room number, reservation status, checkout time, whether parking is part of a package. Without a connection to the PMS, you are working around it. With a connection, you are working with it.

Every hotel runs a PMS. Which one they run, and how it is configured, determines what integration looks like in practice.

The Platforms You Will Encounter

Oracle Opera Cloud

Full-service hotels, luxury properties, large branded chains, international hotel groups

Opera Cloud is the dominant PMS in full-service hotels, luxury properties, large resorts, and branded chains globally. If you are pursuing hotel contracts with Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, or similarly scaled brands, there is a strong chance Opera Cloud is in the mix. Integration is done through Oracle's structured API layer — a process that requires registration on both sides before anything goes live.

Operator intel

Structured approval process on both sides. An operator saying "we can integrate with Opera Cloud" means something very different if the integration work is already done versus if it would need to be built from scratch.

StayNTouch

StayNTouch is a cloud-native PMS with a mobile-first design and a notably open approach to third-party integration. Unlike most PMS platforms, StayNTouch publishes its APIs publicly with no approval gate to start building. It also supports webhooks, which means integrated systems receive real-time push notifications when something changes in the PMS rather than polling repeatedly for updates.

Operator intel

Most developer-friendly of the major platforms. Real-time webhook support means a valet system is notified immediately when a guest checks out — preventing the missed charges and manual follow-up that create leakage.

Agilysys

Where you will see it

Resorts, casino hotels, large conference properties, full-service properties with complex revenue structures

Agilysys has been in hospitality software for over 40 years and has a strong footprint in environments where the operation is complex — resorts, casino hotels, and large conference properties. Their platform uses open, RESTful APIs and is designed to support third-party integration across their product lines. One important detail: Agilysys operates multiple PMS products — Visual One, LMS, and Stay — that serve different property types.

Operator intel

Multiple product lines under one brand. Worth confirming which Agilysys platform the property runs before assuming integration scope. "We integrate with Agilysys" needs a follow-up: which one?

HotelKey

Select-service hotels, extended-stay properties, IHG-branded locations

HotelKey is the newest platform on this list and the one with the most momentum right now. In 2024, IHG Hotels and Resorts named HotelKey as its first approved cloud PMS for select-service brands in the US and Canada, with a rollout targeting more than 1,500 IHG properties. If your operation serves or is pursuing IHG-branded properties — Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, and others — HotelKey is increasingly the system you will need to work with.

Fast-growing footprint, especially within IHG. If you are targeting select-service hotel contracts, this platform is increasingly relevant. ValetBridge integration is in active development.

Independent hotels, regional properties, establishments on the same PMS for several years

Lightspeed Galaxy — formerly Galaxy Hotel Systems — has an established install base particularly in independent hotels and regional properties. Galaxy has REST API capabilities, but its integration model is more traditional than newer cloud-native platforms. Integration typically involves more direct coordination with the Lightspeed team and may require more property-side configuration time.

Operator intel

Established install base, more traditional integration model. Expect more coordination and configuration time than with open-API platforms. ValetBridge does not currently support a native Lightspeed Galaxy integration.

What Is the Same Across All of Them

Knowing the platform is just the starting point. Regardless of which PMS a property runs, these three things are always true:

Every property configures it differently

The same PMS can behave very differently at two different hotels. Charge codes, parking packages, entitlement rules, VIP flags, group billing — all of that is property-specific configuration, not platform defaults. A hotel running Opera Cloud may have a completely different charge posting setup than the Opera Cloud property down the street.

The hotel has to be involved

You cannot integrate with a PMS on your own. The hotel's IT contact or administrator has to participate — approving access, providing credentials, testing the connection, and confirming their specific configuration. Budget for that coordination time in any integration project.

Integration is not a one-time event

PMS configurations change. Packages get added or modified. System versions get updated. A good integration needs to be maintained, not just launched. This is the difference between a vendor who built a connection once and a platform that maintains it continuously.

What This Means for Your Business

Understanding the PMS landscape — even at a high level — changes the conversation you can have with hotel clients. Instead of responding to “we are on Opera Cloud” with a nod and a follow-up question later, you can ask the right questions on the spot:

Questions worth asking on the spot

Is your Oracle integration user already set up?
What charge codes do you use for overnight valet?
Is parking included in any of your current packages?
Which Agilysys product are you running?
Are you on the IHG rollout timeline for HotelKey?

Those questions signal competence. And in a market where more hotel procurement teams are treating PMS connectivity as a qualification rather than a nice-to-have, that competence is increasingly what separates operators who win hotel contracts from operators who do not.

“The answer to that question is increasingly expected to be yes. The operators who can back it up are the ones building lasting hotel relationships.”

ML-Powered

ValetBridge uses machine learning to handle data mapping, authentication, and sync automatically across each connected PMS. Every PMS uses a different field schema and authentication model — our ML engine handles the translation without manual configuration on your end. See how it works →

The Bottom Line

You do not need to become a PMS expert to compete effectively in the hotel valet market. But knowing what these platforms are, where you will encounter them, and what integration actually involves puts you in a much stronger position — whether you are responding to an RFP, onboarding a new property, or having a conversation with a hotel GM who wants to know if your operation can connect to their system.

The answer to that question is increasingly expected to be yes. The operators who can back it up are the ones building lasting hotel relationships.
